Instruction documents
Use optional Agent Instruction Documents when the Advanced setting is enabled, including support limits and unsupported behavior.
Instruction documents are an optional Library type for agent instruction content that is separate from rules, skills, and commands. The feature is off by default.
Opt-in setting
- Open Settings → Advanced / Labs.
- Enable Agent Instruction Documents.
- Save Changes.
When disabled:
- Library routes for instruction documents redirect away with an unavailable notice
- Full sync does not process instruction documents
Create and manage
With the setting on:
- Open Library → Instruction Documents.
- Create content and tags as needed.
- Synchronize to agents/scopes that support instruction documents.
Unlike most other types, instruction documents are not assignable through the same assignment affordances; they participate through synchronizable active-document paths when enabled.
Compatibility
Instruction document support is agent-specific. Examples from the matrix:
- Supported at both scopes for Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, GitHub Copilot CLI, Kilo Code, OpenCode, and others
- Mixed or single-scope support for Devin, Grok, Hermes, Aider (gated)
- Unsupported for many agents including Antigravity, Augment, Cline, CodeWhale, Cursor, Kiro, Roo Code, and Zed
Always confirm status before relying on this labs feature in production workflows.
Unsupported behavior
- Do not expect instruction documents to replace rules or
AGENTS.mdon agents that mark the feature unsupported. - Turning the setting off hides the type; re-enable before troubleshooting missing items.
- Treat the feature as work-in-progress: verify after product updates.
